Energy concepts delivered per year10
Feasibility studies, district concepts, campus analyses, city-wide strategies
Hours per concept today (manual workflow)120 hrs
Data preparation through scenario analysis to client report. Typical district concept: 80–200 hrs.
Fully-loaded internal cost per engineer hourCHF 95 /hr
Salary + overhead. Swiss engineering consultant: ~CHF 77–100/hr internal cost.
Client billing rateCHF 175 /hr
Swiss engineering firms typically bill CHF 140–220/hr for energy specialists.
Expected time reduction per concept
Based on reported Sympheny customer outcomes across the full planning workflow. Conservative (40%) is more typical in the first year of use; Typical (60%) reflects established teams; High-impact (75%) matches the Solar Impulse Foundation independent benchmark.
Estimated hours freed per year
720
hours freed per year
Equivalent to CHF 68k of internal planning capacity
Value of time freed
CHF 68k
Internal capacity at fully-loaded cost
Capacity for additional client work
CHF 126k
If freed hours are directed to new projects
Extra concepts your team can deliver
15
With the same team and time budget
At this project volume, the estimated value of time saved can exceed Sympheny's annual licence cost within the first project.
How this is calculated
Concepts per year10
Hours per concept (today)120 hrs
Total hours per year (today)1,200 hrs
Time reduction assumption60% (Typical)
Hours freed per year720 hrs
Value of time freedCHF 68,400
Capacity for additional client workCHF 126,000
Formulas usedConcepts per year × hours per concept × time reduction = hours freed
Hours freed × internal cost rate = value of time freed
Hours freed × billing rate = capacity for additional client work
These estimates are directional and intended to support internal business-case discussions. Actual savings depend on project complexity, data availability, workflow, and team adoption. Time reduction benchmarks are based on reported Sympheny customer outcomes; the 75% figure is consistent with the Solar Impulse Foundation independent impact assessment. Internal cost benchmarks from ERI SalaryExpert Switzerland 2025. Currency conversions approximate: 1 CHF ≈ 1.05 EUR, 1 CHF ≈ 1.12 USD.

Built for procurement

Security, privacy, and procurement readiness

Sympheny is a Swiss company built around European data protection standards. Here's what your security, IT, and procurement teams typically want to know upfront.

EU-hosted by default

Project data is hosted on AWS in Stockholm, Sweden. Customer relationship data is managed in Salesforce, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.

Data residency options

Enterprise customers with specific data residency requirements — including US deployment options — can be discussed during procurement.

Customer data remains yours

We don't resell, archive, or repurpose your project data. After cancellation, data is exported and then deleted in line with GDPR.

GDPR and Swiss data protection alignment

Fully GDPR compliant and aligned with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG). Payments handled by certified third-party processors.

Transparent sub-processors

We publish the sub-processors involved in delivering Sympheny so your team can review them as part of any vendor assessment.

No customer data trains our AI

MILP optimisation is deterministic — no AI in the calculations. ML forecasting is opt-in. Either way, your project data never trains any model, ours or anyone else's.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get value from Sympheny?
For users with prior experience in optimisation or energy-system modelling, Sympheny can usually be understood in less than a week. Once workflows are established, many studies can be set up in around 30 minutes. New users can often learn simple workflows after a 1-hour onboarding and a few hours of practice, including generating demand and PV profiles, sizing a PV-plus-battery system from an example, and comparing scenarios.
Do all users need to be optimisation experts?
No. Most organisations use Sympheny with one key expert user and several occasional users. Expert users handle advanced modelling questions, while wider teams can run simpler, repeatable workflows with support from internal specialists and the Sympheny team.
How does the evaluation process work?
Most teams start with a scoped, guided evaluation on a real project of theirs. We work alongside your team to set up the platform, configure inputs to your context, and run a representative scenario together — so by the end of the evaluation you have a concrete output and a clear view of fit before any commercial commitment. Pilot access can be extended where the use case warrants it.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes. Plans can be adjusted as your team size, project volume, or deployment needs change. Your Sympheny contact will help you move to the right setup.
Where is our data hosted? Are you GDPR compliant?
Sympheny is fully GDPR compliant. Project data is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Stockholm, Sweden — within the EU. Customer relationship data is managed via Salesforce, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany — also within the EU. Sympheny never stores credit card information directly; all payment processing is handled by certified third-party processors. As a Swiss company, we also operate in full compliance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG). Enterprise customers with specific data residency requirements are welcome to contact us to discuss their needs.
Is Sympheny certified Swiss Made Software?
Yes. Sympheny is an official Swiss Made Software certified product, meaning the software is developed, maintained, and supported in Switzerland. We are also a spin-off of Empa — part of the ETH Domain — with 10+ years of underlying research backing our optimisation engine. For procurement processes requiring Swiss software credentials, we are happy to provide documentation.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
Your data remains accessible for an export period after cancellation. Contact us for the exact terms. After that period, data is permanently deleted from our servers in accordance with GDPR requirements. We do not retain, resell, or archive any client project data.
Do you offer special terms for educational institutions?
Yes, we have a dedicated programme for universities and research groups. Please contact us to discuss.
What happens if I go over my project limit on the Essential plan?
If you need more than 3 projects, you'll need to upgrade to the Professional plan. Your existing projects will remain accessible.
